Integrating new kids: I agree with the suggestions around pairing new kids with an older kid who can act as a mentor. With the class year doubling in grade 9, it seems extremely important to focus on the grade 9 year to bring the kids together and establish the school’s values within the new grade 9 cohort. Yes, there is the grade 9 outdoor ed trip, but what other efforts are made during the year to really bring the 2 groups of kids together (those that did grades 7/8 at SMCS and those that did not)? For the grade 8 trip, my son (new this year) was in a cabin of all new kids. Why was that? What’s the benefit of putting 7 new kids together in one cabin?
